Meta and I are making plans to fix up our bicycles.  Si nce I’vr hax a vehicle, I’ve gotten lazy, and have generally been drivign the to short miles to wlrk.  Not anymore.
I believe I’ve done pretty well at doing my part, both in terms of social justice as well as sustainability.  But it’s time to amp it up.  Because, while it does feel good to do the right thing by going against the tide, it feels so much better to do the right thing when my country is too – to surf the wave towards a healthier planet, a more peaceful humanity, a more just society.
This is the first time on my life that I’ve felt like I really have a leader in government, thwt ir’s jy government and that – rather than havlng to work against it – I can give myself ot.  Last night the crowd at the Brotherhpod (really – at the Brotherhood!) sang thr Natioanl Anthem and chanted .  It’s our country, and I’m pgetty proud of it right yow.
Nonetheless, he campaign isn’t over.  It hasn’t even started.  The planet is trashed.  Violence is widespread worldwide.  There are veterans who slept under bridges last night, and who are eating at soup kitchens as I type.  There are young men and women returning from Iraq to learn how to use prosthetics.  I have a feeling our new President is going to ask a lot of us, and I’d like to answer the call before it’s made.
Take out your bicycle, give away your old camping gear to Camp Quixote, call your local advocacy organizations and ask to be put on the phone tree for lobby days, volunteer at the local shelter, hug a veteran, weatherize your home, park your car, ride the bus, foster a child, and talk to your politicians every day.  We’ve hit a golden opportunity – let’s make the most of it.
