First Night
New Years Eve in Boston means one thing: First Night, the countrys longest-running city-wide celebration to toast the New Year. We can only hope that it is better than last year! This year – its 33rd – will feature (according to its website) “an amazing group of performers and visual artists who truly represent the richness of Bostons cultural landscape. Our celebration features longtime audience favorites like the interactive Fedex Family Festival, colossal ice sculptures, the Mardi Gras style Metro Grand Procession, and of course, two dazzling fireworks displays.” For entertainment you can catch(amongst others) Shakespeare at the Orpheum, jazz phenomenon Hiromi at the Berklee Performance Center (pictured), dance sensations Monkeyhouse at John Hancock Hall, Opera Boston at Emmanuel Church, and Sxip Shirey and human beat boxer Adam Matta creating soundscapes at the Castle at Park Plaza. First Night 2009 Buttons are $18.
